I think for our original we came up with a good concept. It was a funk rock song with lyrics about not caring about anything. The roles in this song were that Maisie was singing, I was playing lead guitar, Zach was playing rhythm guitar, Keeleigh was playing bass and Barrie was playing drums. All of us had to play with a funk element to a rock vibe and play with pure emotion. These roles were decided because we have 2 guitarists, 1 bassist a drummer and a singer. Was quite easy to decide because nobody had to play an instrument out of their comfort zone. We all know this isn’t commercial sounding music for the UK. This is an American old school funk rock song that we would never expect to be played mainstream. The anticipated final outcome is that we will get good feedback for when we start putting this single out there. The targets and goals were that we produced what I had in my head when we began writing the song and it came to plan. I would say that everyone had some input into the song at some point, there wasn’t anyone slacking when it came to writing it. We made creative decisions by playing the ideas to the other band mates and if 3/5 said yes or no. We would go with that decision, the song was like a blank canvas and we could be as creative with it as we possibly could. My thoughts were that we needed to all be happy with it and we all were, I am incredibly happy with how it sounds. What I thought was poor was during rehearsals there would be a lot of wasted time because of people playing over each other between playing the song which is incredibly irritating which would often lead to the rehearsals ending because the ones who just wanted to rehearse properly would just go elsewhere and it would slow the whole work process down. I would say the project concept stands now because it went down really well all In all because we came out with something we are all happy with. There definitely will be considerations though like how we will work faster next time and we may have to talk about rehearsing properly and not wasting time. It still stands though because we want to move forward and possibly make an album wit this style of music.
I wouldn’t say the guidelines were clear as we just kind of wrote it over time and not really planning anything. We all decided on what we were doing as a group. To prepare for the single event we rehearsed a lot for it so we were tight as a band. We did some design work too for the band, we made posters that we put around to promote ourselves. Everyone played to their strengths in this project which made it so packed with energy. If we are all playing at our best, we will get a very powerful song, everyone carried out the roles expected eventually because everyone did commit to the project one way or another.one thing that could have been improved was the time management, like I say there was a lot of wasted time and it took a while to run fluidly. We didn’t really have a timescale because we just put the song together during rehearsals. No alterations happened. Something that could of gone different is that we could of planned it more so we didn’t waste time, so next time we will plan it so we can work better and quicker. My input is that I wrote most the song apart from the lyrics and that is all. I left the artwork to Maisie because um not artistic. What was good about my part is that I think it drives the song but the bad part is is that it may have too much of me in it where there shouldn’t be.
The actual event I believe was a success. there was a fairly big audience, the show looked fairly professional for a first gig. All the bands played their material to the best of their ability and people seemed to enjoy it. One proble was that everone had a job and most peoples jobs didnt stick with them and it turned out that everyone was doing each others jobs. Next time this can be worked on(mainly including myself.) Besides that everyone was responsible but for each others jobs rather than their own (I am mainly to blame for this.) My responsibilities was to organise the event and keep everyone in check and visit the venue. To do this I needed good people skills which I have in person but I serverly lack when it came to phone calls which is why I thought it would be a better idea for Maisie to call the cinnabar for me. One thing we forgot which was important was a running order that everyone was familiar with, having one would of made everyone sure of which act was up at what time. Not having one of these caused a slight confusion. This will not be an issue next time. We had a slight technical issue at the sound check where we were getting major feedback from one of the guitars, after about 10 minutes we realised it was a guitar lead, im glad we made the mistake because its the best way to learn. It took a while for us to find out what the problem was. To make the event better we could of promoted it better. I think we should of released our singles before the event so people would felt more informed coming because they would of known what to expect and they would of known if it was their type of music before they made the decision to come. I think we could of promoted the websites better. We could of promoted our Facebook pages abit more. But for a first gig I was impressed with how calm and collected everyone was and everyone performed very well. Sorting those things out would benefit the group by knowing how to set an event up perfectly rather than just putting it together and not really knowing how to attract people to it. I could of made it better by sticking more posters around. I only stuck posters at the actual venue, I could of also done a better job as the project manager. I should of been more up to date with what everyone was doing and I in general should of been more responsible.
For this project, what I would of done differently was I would of planned it out over weeks on a spreadsheet. I did not do this but now I know why this is necessary. I wish I was more organised and didnt leave everything to the last minute, this will definately not happen next time. I wish I had of done this because If I had of done everything pefectly on time I would have nothing to worry about but leaving everything to the last minute makes everything a massive rush. I could sort this by having a calender ready for what I want to do each day/week. I could also be more self disciplinary. No excuses I know I was slacking and it wont happen again, I assure myself this because I hate the thought of seeming lazy, I always want to seem driven and enthusiastic. Back up plan wise I think we could of had back up venues for the actual event, We(the group) should of came up with a risk assessment not for the task we had to do, but things that could of gone wrong in the event, for example, getting cancelled by the venue on short notice. Like I say I could of been more time efficient by planning everything out rather than procrastinating. All in all I believe this project is still viable because there were alot of positives besides the negatives, the event went down well and we all made good singles. I feel like the single could develop by releasing it wherever possible, for example… iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp and Soundcloud etc. I feel like our single is good enough to catch peoples ear (without sounding cocky.) What I would add to the project is better organisation which I have mentioned alot above, the next logical step is to get the single out there and promote the band properly though social media and possibly our band website rather because people arnet going to be interested if they dont know about it. From this project I have gained experience and realised that its not just about how good of a musician a person is, its how they put theirselves out there. This will definately help me when it comes to organising events myself and it has helped me gain confidence.
