Personal Development Plan.
First of all. I would like to improve my knowledge of sound and frequencys so I can know how to set up a band sound properly so I dont have to pay someone to do it. to improve my knowledge I will.
Week 1. Look at youtube videos and learn about how to make a mix sound clear in a studio. [y]
Week 2. Attempt mixing my own songs at home on logic (basic ideas) [y]
Week 3. Try adding more instruments so it is more complex to mix(I struggled with this and didnt have much time and I nee to learn more about it)
Week 4. Learn the basics of how to mic up a drum kit [y] (We covered this in college which helped)
Week 5. Learn how to dial a good guitar sound that will cut through the mix live. [y]
Week 6. Study how iconic albums/ songs were recorded to develop taste for sound. [y]
Week 7. Study effects used to make a mix sound better. [y]
Week 8. Start to use those effects and understand how they work[y]
I want to work on my jazz playing to give a new flavor to my playing. plus it will put my theory knowledge to the test. To do this I will.
Week 1. Discover jazz artists and listen to them after putting it all in a playlist. [y]
Week 2. Listen to it with a more technical ear to develop an ear for jazz harmony. [y]
Week 3. Learn complex chords. [y]
Week 4. Study scales used in jazz music. [y]
Week 5. Study chord progressions used in jazz. [y]
Week 6. Learn a popular jazz song. [y]
Week 7. Improvise over that song (I did this the week for a little bit.) [Y]
Week 8. Use inversions that would be used in jazz. [Y]
One small thing I want to work on is my right hand technique when playing bass. To accomplish this I will practice half an hour each week of picking a string to a metronome and each week I will increase the speed. [y] (I did this for 8 weeks because its the only thing bass playing wise I was desperate to work on.)
One big thing im keen on working on is my ear training so music feels more like a language. to do this I will
Week 1. Work on hearing single notes correct every time. [y]
Week 2. Work on hearing major and minor thirds. [y]
Week 3. Work on hearing chords perfectly rather than good but not perfect [N] but doing week 4 eliminated the purpose of going back to this.
Week 4. Hear major, minor and dominant 7 chords. [y]
Week 5. Be able to hear chord inversions. [y]
Week 6. The same thing because its a complicated topic. [N]
Week 7. Work on being able to hear complex chords [Y] this interlinks with ym jazz playing also
Week 8. Same again because it takes a while to develop an eat for complex chords.
Something I also want to work on is my technique when playing guitar… Whether it be; Speed, timing or new techniques in general. To accomplish these things I will
Week 1. Practice rhythm playing with a metronome [y]
Week 2. Work on alternate picking [y]
Week 3. Learn a complex song which has difficult techniques. [y]
Week 4. Work on bending intonation [y]
Week 5. Watch youtube videos to see how virtuoso players go about technique. [y]
Week 6. Go over everything youve learned about technique over a 2 hour period [y] I near enough did this
Week 7. Work out new exercises for technique [y] I used Rock discipline for this.
Week 8. Practice everything again to keep fresh [y]
