Action Plan

This is for the new year at college. This new project is bout making a press pack. I still feel like there is a long way to go in terms of development as a musician. So I now have 5 more things that I can work on. I have picked things now that I should be comfortable with but I always batted off because I used to try and run before I could walk. The new 5 things I have came up with are

Playing modes more musically. I learned the modes ages ago but I have never gone over every one of them and put time into making them sound musical. I am a huge fan of Dorian and Aeolian. but modes like Lydian, Phrygian and Mixolydian are modes I am familiar with but they are not majorly in my comfort zone.

Singing. I would like to be able to be good enough as a singer to hold a professional gig together and not sound out of place. I want to do this because it is another string to my bow.

Working on my improvising on guitar. I love improvising but I feel it is a weak point of mine because I spent alot of time improvising with no music and it has effected timing and a sense of musicial reality. So I will study improvisation properly and try to sound more natural.

Finger picking. Because of the style I primarily play I normally use a pick. My fingerstyle skills are limited and I would love to take it to a more advanced level so I can go into the realms of other genres.

Reading basic sheet music. I would like to become a session player, in order to do this I will need to learn how to read music, but to start with I want to learn the basics such as, sight reading, note values etc.

I found my first development plan very useful, I feel like I did it fairly well. Some points were abit ropey because the way I planned everything wasn’t very easy to work with, so some weeks I would end up just noodling away like I always do and not learn an awful lot. I will change this by making my tasks more realistic this time around. I am not very good at time management so with more realistic tasks I will be more organised with everything.

For the next project I want to get loads of professional looking videos done and a good bio about myself so I can put a very impressive press pack together. Also I want to create some tracks as a solo artist playing instrumental guitar driven music. I have always loved this style of music and I would like to try it myself. I would like some tracks with singing on it though so I am keen on collaborating with singers. Rydah will be inactive for the near future but may start up again depending on the circumstances.
